Mandy Bangerter

Mandy is a textile artist and illustrator whose mixed media images explore how thread, stitch, fabric and found materials can be used to describe surface and place. Often blurring the boundaries between photography, paint, drawing and stitch, her work is inspired by both landscape and human form. “On my walks I am fascinated by the feeling of the landscape unfolding in layers before me. I recreate that experience by layering fabrics – found on my walks, painted in situ or dyed – together with the expressive mark that can be created with stitch.” Drawing with machine stitch also provides Mandy with an expressive line for her life studies, often using a stretched thread to describe the tension of a pose.

Mandy studied for a degree in Illustration at UCA, Kent and taught art and photography before moving to the beautiful Isle of Wight eight years ago.
